App Prototype
An app to find the shortest and safest possible walking route to your destination.
Ideation
I took up a project to design a solution for my friends’ transportation problems. Conducting an interview revealed that most of her commute involved walking. Finding a short and safe route to walk was her main concern. This app prototype, ShortWalk was a proposed solution for her transportation problems.
Sketches
Some quick sketching and iterating revealed features to include or exclude. Key points considered during design were,
- Easy destination search.
- Display available paths with emphasis on safety.
- Warning messages if unsafe path is selected.
The app would decide the safety of a route based on crime demographics of the area, time of day, recent events etc. With the initial sketching done, it was time for a paper prototype.
Paper Prototype
A refined paper prototype was created with the help of POP app (check them out! They’re awesome!).
A few rounds of usability testing and iteration made the user experience better. A Hi-Fi prototype finally emerged!
